When it’s time to choose the right truck service body, you’ll need some specific information and three measurements. Once you have this, you’ll be able to choose from standard service bodies, EC Series service bodies, KSS, line bodies and crane bodies, all made by Knapheide.
Basic Measurements
The three measurements needed are the setback, which must have a minimum of a 3-inch gap between the body and the cab, the wheel base and the cab to axle measurement. To find the wheel base, measure from the center of the front wheel to the center of the rear wheel. To find the cab to axle measurement, measure from the rear outside wall of the cab to the center of the rear wheel.
Truck Information
You’ll also need information about your truck. This information ensures that we have the correct service body that will properly fit your truck. Be sure to have the following:
- Model year of your truck
- The make of your truck
- The model of your truck
- Whether your truck is a two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive
- Whether the rear axle is single or double
- The type of engine, whether gas, diesel or something else
- The number of fuel tanks your truck is equipped with, and where they are located
- The gross vehicle weight (GVWR) of your truck
You can find the gross vehicle weight of the truck on the driver’s side door pillar. This is the total amount of weight that your vehicle, including itself, can carry.
