Hardsurfacing, Inc. is a family-owned local company that does mostly commercial concrete work and occasional residential projects. Drake-Scruggs Trucks Are an Essential Part of Hardsurfacing, Inc. Operations.

The company fleet includes a Ford F600 with an 11’ Crysteel Dump Body that is essential to the company’s day to day activities. This small dump truck is capable of hauling 8 tons of rock to a jobsite or hauling away tear-out concrete as needed. Its size offers the advantage of being able to navigate tight places that would not be feasible with a larger, tandem axle truck.

A Ford F550 with a Knapheide 14’ KUV Service Body is the workhorse of the team’s fleet. Inside the cargo area is enough storage space to carry all of the necessary tools and equipment to job sites. This enclosed service body is very unique in that it has a 6’ long box, which hangs above the truck cab, allowing for the transportation of 20’ long concrete strikeoff tools.

Another truck in the fleet is a Ford F550 with an 11’ Service Body. This truck has a custom overhead material rack that enables the team to haul wood and other long materials to job sites. The body compartments are full of job specific tools, such as concrete saws and form making tools. This truck was not built by Drake-Scruggs Equipment.

Chad and the Hardsurfacing, Inc. team have had to deal with adversity over the 29 years of business but literally had to “weather the storm” after the EF-2 tornado hit the Village of Sherman back in March of 2023. The KUV work truck sustained extensive damage. A complete repaint of the silver metallic on the body and a complete rebuild of the interior of the F550 were needed; the only factory original part inside the cab is the center console.

These work trucks have increased the efficiency of tool and equipment storage for the company. They also serve as rolling business cards as they all have the company’s branding proudly displayed on the vehicle doors and body side surfaces.

Drake-Scruggs is proud to have played a role in helping Chad and Hardsurfacing, Inc. to become the highly successful business it is today.
